Overview

The “Interturn fault detection” element is a complement to the percent differential function. It detects interturn fault conditions using voltage compensated differential currents. The voltage-based compensation term cancels out steady state differential current of each phase. The resulting compensated differential current is sensitive enough to pick up turn-to-turn faults.

For more detailed information on “Interturn fault detection” element, refer to GE, Universal Relay (UR) family of products, Version 8.0x manuals.
